Architecture
This new residential building in Kilchberg is situated on the border to Zurich. It is positioned at the highest point of the property and spans between the Grenzsteig and the neighbouring urban agricultural area.
The new building (architecture: Boltshauser Architekten AG, Zurich) is organized on three floors and houses seven apartments. The floor plans develop following the plot, opening conically towards the lake. This creates exciting, flowing spatial figures. The skeleton construction is made with low-CO2 materials such as clay bricks and clay plaster, recycled bricks and recycled concrete. A new two-shell masonry principle has been developed, which consists of recycled bricks on the outside and clay bricks on the inside as well as insulation in between. Energy for heating and hot water is obtained from geothermal energy, and electricity is generated by the photovoltaic system on the roof.
